Meet the B Family.

It was the first time in forever the whole family had been together. It was their dad's 70th birthday. They wanted to make their photos count.

We did that.

And we made memories too. Some of the best.

I've never had so much fun on a photo shoot in my life.

I didn't bother shooting a 365 shot on Saturday. I had a real shoot, with people and everything. And they had a blast. In case you couldn't tell.

On Gaining the Scope

Last year I focused very much on the intimate details of things - this year, I'm going for scope and composition. I'm wanting to use my wide-angle lens for all it's worth, see what I can come up with for a fresh look to my photography.

Here's a sampling of how I'd like this to work in landscape, detail, and portraiture. Still developing - may take up my 365 project again, since morning sickness is all gone now.

(And yes, I am having waaay too much fun with the new baby.)

I have two now. Two little faces that bear some of my image. Two little hearts to take my heart away. Two sets of needs, two new personalities, two little lives that make up mine. What a happy new way to start a year...

Christmas Shopping

One of the things I want to work on is my camera-courage, the gutsy take-the-photo-anyway approach that helps to get the shots I want. It's hard to sneak shots of people. People have camera magnets wired into their systems. If you have a camera, you are immediately on their radar. Even in my hired sessions, I find that I need at least 20 minutes with a person or a group to find them in my viewfinder.

Last year, my husband took me and my camera to Charleston's King Street for a crisp walk and some photo fun, which I had. He corralled the little one while I went "shopping" with my camera. We didn't spend anything, except for lunch, but the take-home was more than enough Christmas for me!

Story

It's not every day that I get to photograph people. We've got one car and too much to do on weekends to get ready for the baby to get out and shoot much right now. I'm craving the life right now, mentally photographing people we see when we're out doing our necessary thing, learning to observe again while being a part of it all myself.

I think I may post a series this week from my favorite out-and-about candids, the story-telling shots that make me happy to view and shoot.

This one is a memory - can you see? I can't help wondering what he is thinking, wishing I knew his story...

I ♥ Faces Contest - Professionals

I had a little bit of extra time and non-nausea this morning, so I thought I would make an entry into this week's I ♥ Faces "Blurb Book Photo" contest with a one-photo submission under the category, "My Favorite Face Photo."

It is so hard to choose a *best* face photo out of the hundreds (probably thousands) I have shot, so I decided keep the photo I chose to one of my own photos and not one of my wedding photos. I am going with an old one of my daughter that I just can't get over, from the 9-month-old challenge in her clear, deep eyes to the little tongue peeking out of her precocious mouth. I haven't developed a lot of photos over the years I've been shooting, but this is one favorite that I plan to hang as soon as I ever get a frame for it!

I'm nervously entering the shot under the "professionals category" because I know I have done a lot more shooting than most amateurs, and while I still consider myself an amateur in so many ways, I have been paid for most of my work, and that makes me a professional purely by definition.

I am submitting this photo into the www.iheartfaces.com Blurb Book photo contest. I am granting I ♥ Faces permission to use my photo in a printed version of a book for commercial use and possibly advertising of a photo book on both the Blurb and I ♥ Faces web sites.

117/365 - stuck

Piper has a new word recently, one she is using liberally every time she climbs up on this shelf and hangs her tummy up on it so she can't climb down. She was here when I picked up the camera at my desk today, so I just took her picture. The title: "Stuck," with a very cute toddler intonation.

Sixty-Five - Little Girl in My Window

I moved our wicker coffee table into the living room under the open window, and Piper has been loving the new seat to look outside and dream or hide in the curtains and watch us (or her DVD) without being seen. Took a few today, but this is my favorite...

Sixty-Four - Little Belle

We spent the afternoon exploring, first a park near Pete's office (where this was shot), then lovely drive and a really neat tourist find. I got quite a few cool photos, but this is the one I kept noticing and re-noticing. The almost-favorite was this shot, which was so over-exposed that I had to do more processing than I wanted to do for a 365 shot. I loved it, though!

Forty-Two - Little Valentine

this shot was so perfect for pulling out the pink and red in black and white. we had a lovely rainy valentine's day, and i let myself edit today's shots into a vintage mood... Hope your day has been as nice as mine has!

Thirty-Seven - Little Girl, Pondering

Today I did my shooting at noon, which made for a lot of high contrast and tricky washout lighting. I ended up putting what little I shot into black and white. This was my favorite shot of the day, but I also loved the framing on this one.
