Mar 11 - Me, Her Mama

Decided to have fun with the kid today - the bigger one who has had to do a lot of fending for herself recently.

I was on my back, working on a photo of my toes (which didn't come off, thank God - I needed those toes to shoot again another day!) and she lay down next to me on the floor.

And we did this before she got on my tummy and played for the shot above:

(7/Dust)

The SP ended up frustrating me today. I've lost my camera attachment to put the thing on the tripod, so I wasted a bit of shooting time digging around the house for it. Sigh.

I'm noticing a trend about my self-portraits. I'm hiding. As much as I can, I hide my eyes, shooting only parts of me, putting things in front of me, using my children as props. It's an interesting psychological thing, I'm sure. I'm so unused to finding myself in front of the camera - I don't know what to do! It's easier to just shoot into the mirror and glare at myself, check my facial expression as I go. Standing in front of the timer, waiting for the shot - that's HARD.

I think it's going to be good for me. And for my clients.

Aaannd here are a few of the rest I shot.

About the flowers: I picked up some leftover V-day flowers at Walmart after B's appointment this morning. I was ostensibly stopping just to pick up juice for P, who threw up her breakfast, but we got sidetracked, so we brought home flowers too.

I ♥ Faces Contest - Professionals

I had a little bit of extra time and non-nausea this morning, so I thought I would make an entry into this week's I ♥ Faces "Blurb Book Photo" contest with a one-photo submission under the category, "My Favorite Face Photo."

It is so hard to choose a *best* face photo out of the hundreds (probably thousands) I have shot, so I decided keep the photo I chose to one of my own photos and not one of my wedding photos. I am going with an old one of my daughter that I just can't get over, from the 9-month-old challenge in her clear, deep eyes to the little tongue peeking out of her precocious mouth. I haven't developed a lot of photos over the years I've been shooting, but this is one favorite that I plan to hang as soon as I ever get a frame for it!

I'm nervously entering the shot under the "professionals category" because I know I have done a lot more shooting than most amateurs, and while I still consider myself an amateur in so many ways, I have been paid for most of my work, and that makes me a professional purely by definition.

I am submitting this photo into the www.iheartfaces.com Blurb Book photo contest. I am granting I ♥ Faces permission to use my photo in a printed version of a book for commercial use and possibly advertising of a photo book on both the Blurb and I ♥ Faces web sites.

117/365 - stuck

Piper has a new word recently, one she is using liberally every time she climbs up on this shelf and hangs her tummy up on it so she can't climb down. She was here when I picked up the camera at my desk today, so I just took her picture. The title: "Stuck," with a very cute toddler intonation.

I just didn't feel like using my camera today, so this is what we got, sidewalk chalk that Piper and her babysitter left for me to find. I guess spring really is officially here!

My mom sent Piper this little dress for Easter, because my mom loves pretty dresses for little girls. We'll be flying home from a Minnesota wedding on Easter, but Pip will get to wear the dress at the wedding. It has many foofy pink layers - I'm glad she'll be warm! Wishing I could get her to wear a hat to match...

Bonus Shot Friday

It's that day again, Bonus Shot Friday, when I post a photo I like that didn't get a feature! This one is from today, from my little "no, Mommy, I want to be in your self-portrait too!" We took a picture of our feet. It makes me happy.

Bonus Shot Friday

I decided to include some life today for my Bonus Shot Friday, the day I can post whatever I want on here. Not that I can't any other time. Anyway... I absolutely love this shot of my Piper, so excited about getting out of her high chair. The bokeh in the background just beautifully captured my favorite early evening light!

Sixty-Five - Little Girl in My Window

I moved our wicker coffee table into the living room under the open window, and Piper has been loving the new seat to look outside and dream or hide in the curtains and watch us (or her DVD) without being seen. Took a few today, but this is my favorite...

Sixty-Four - Little Belle

We spent the afternoon exploring, first a park near Pete's office (where this was shot), then lovely drive and a really neat tourist find. I got quite a few cool photos, but this is the one I kept noticing and re-noticing. The almost-favorite was this shot, which was so over-exposed that I had to do more processing than I wanted to do for a 365 shot. I loved it, though!

Here is my kids' entry for this week's I ♥ Faces Wonder category.


I caught my little girl in our new curtains yesterday, loving the soft, sheer loveliness of them, peeking through to see what she could see, hiding in the light behind them, swept up in the pure wonder of what made her feel beautiful. When I pulled this out of my camera, it moved ME to wonder too, and brought back all the lovely feeling that made me want to wear a wedding veil or a slip or a white dress any time I got the chance. And you know, I still haven't outgrown it...

As usual, I have no illusions of winning in this category - what with all the awesome shots that always get entered here but I thought I'd share it around anyway!
