mar 16 - winter's blossoms

3.16.2010

A just-because shot.

Just because I love crepe myrtle in winter.

Because I love blue.

And sunlight.

And spring.

And because this shot has a story behind it. It's been tempting me since we first looked at our new house - one of the positive things about changing yards and moving three streets over.

This morning, I didn't really get a break between kids to do my shooting, so I wrapped the baby up and told the toddler to stay inside. I would be just outside the door (eight feet away) to take this picture.

It's the longest eight feet in the world when you're holding a three-month old and the toddler comes out and lets the one remaining cat out with all of her stuffed animals in the space of a minute.

And rounding them all up with camera in hand...

Well, let's just say I'm good.

And we'll be working on that listening thing.

Christmas Sunset in Floyd, VA

12.31.2009

Christmas in Virginia, with all the colors and light and cool and snow that I love. It was so worth the trip with the newborn.

115/365 - dreams remembered

4.29.2009

When I was in high school, I used to take long walks with a journal and a blanket and spread myself out beneath a tree on our 25 acres and write and dream and lay back and look up through the leaves. I'm in such a sentimental, weepy mood today after a bout on the couch with Anne of Green Gables, I couldn't seem to find anything to shoot but the simple perspective I used to hold when the world was younger. I don't know about yesterday, or about tomorrow, but today, that blue is gorgeous through the green.

96/365 - blue flare

Thursday, 4/9/08 - Shot this through our rental car window on the fly. Minimally edited.

Bonus Shot Friday

3.06.2009

As I said, I overshot yesterday. Piper and I took a walk down to a church near our house, and found these lovely blossoms hiding on a rather bare tree... I love the simplicity of this shot, and I totally had to share it!

This almost-twilight shot makes me feel so peaceful. I love the way the ends of the bare branches are almost flowered out, reaching, reaching, reaching...

In case you haven't guessed, it's Bonus Shot Friday at my photography blog today! What about you? Did you get a shot this week that didn't fit anywhere but in your heart? Here's a reason and an opportunity for you to share, share, share! Leave the link in your comment!

Thirty-Six - Sun Finds Blue and Brown

2.08.2009

I love the almost-vintage effect of this shot, with the sharp brown seed husks in front and the blue bokeh in the background, all lit up in late afternoon light.

Thirty - A Brighter Day

2.03.2009

After what feels like weeks of cloudy and a hidden sunrise, the sun came out with promise behind these trees this morning. I love the spiky colors in the light here, scattered around by the screen I shot through to get this. Maybe it's a little bright, a little too saturated, but I am in love with the light that is filling my world today.

Twenty-Eight - Glowing Vow

*****************************

This month, I am participating in a contest/project on Shutter Sisters called the one word project. My word for the month is promise, so many of my Project 365 images this month may follow that theme. You can see more from others who are participating here.

*****************************

Note on my Project 365 photos: I have finally decided how I'm going to do this thing: I'm going to post my photo in the evening after I've had all day to shoot, instead of trying to cram my photo time into the morning in front of everything else. I have tried doing morning shooting and getting the new photo up by noon, but that is proving way too stressful. I've tried all-day shooting and putting the photo up the next day, but that just doesn't seem accurate. So here's my new attempt at making this work with my schedule, and getting the photos up on the right day!

Of course, this does mean that I shot twice today. You know, for this shot, I'm not really that sorry.

Nineteen - Praise

1.24.2009

"O God, You are my God;
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land
Where there is no water.

So I have looked for You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.

Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips shall praise You.
Thus I will bless You while I live;
I will lift up my hands in Your name."

- Ps. 63:1-4
